Dean wasn't there when I woke up pretty early. Turns out none of the birds saw him leave. He was meant to have been asleep still, as we administered a drug that should suppress dreams and help him sleep until he was ready to resume testing his abilities before we made a verdict.
My birds found him near the beach, staring at the horizon. I didn't say anything when I finally got to him, as he looked high strung. Just sat next to him and waited, while admiring the sun rise.
His anxiety since his last dream has him pretty strung up, so I guess he still reacts normally to near death situations. He was working himself up into a worse state though when he begun talking, and took me a while to calm him. I had to physically hold him in a hug, because he was animated and concern me.
He took a while to calm down, and I eventually let go when he told me he was okay. I think he just bottles up emotions, and suddenly that bottle had busted.
We then talked, shared our issues. Eventually the others came looking for us, thankfully somehow aware of the situation, likely the birds telling them, and we all ended up chilling at the beach, despite the clouds hiding the sun.
I think Dean isn't cut out to be a Nest. The birds are aware of that but... they want us near him still. They aren't worried about him, but something may come for him and his ability. Dean can seemingly connect over different universes to alternative realities.
No other receivers we have heard of can do such a thing.
The birds don't want another force to use that against them, but are loathe to give him up. So, we're stuck with him for a while longer, as we try and figure out what we should do about him and his situation.
It's the rare moment's like these that make me wonder why I wanted to join the Convocation with King and Tawny... they joined because they also were Receivers, hence why we're dealing with Dean, but I joined to stay with them, my only family.
I'm a Quill when we don't need one so that I could be in the same flock as my family...
I'm merely the sister of The King and Night Owl, two powerful servants thanks to their Receiver abilities working in synergy with being a Nest. I haven't ever seen either use their gifts, I'm never around for it. Emma and Cassy watch me and look after me and Crow just does covert work when Tawny is busy.
After this mission, I want to selfishly spend some time alone with my family and forget that we're serving Gods...
